History & Heritage
- Ancient Roots: The Kangra region, including present-day McLeod Ganj, is mentioned in the Rig Veda and Mahabharata, and was gradually ruled by Mughals, Sikhs, Gurkhas, and the Katoch dynasty.
- British Era: Named after Sir Donald Friell McLeod, Lt. Governor of Punjab, during the 19th century British administration. It was part of the cantonments around Dharamsala.
